The two diamonds story: the pink diamond
The Condé or Gran Condé diamond is more famous for its history than for the rank of "soli" 9.01 carati.
Named after the French Louis II of Bourbon Condé. Of Indian origin, the first owner was the king of France Louis XIII in the seventeenth century, it was he or perhaps his successor to give it to the Bourbon, to thank him for his valiant contribution in the Thirty Years' War. The first lady wearing it was Princess Clare Clemenza of Maillé (1628 -1694), above, in the portrait, consort of Louis II.
The stone remained for a long time the property of the family, whose heirs in 1892 donated it to the Château de Chantilly, France. Where it was stolen in 1926. The theft made a lot of noise, and after meticulous investigations, the diamond was found by a hotelier and a maid hidden inside an apple.
